初看辜鸿铭的《中国人的精神》有感 2008-04-15 19:30:58
收到了外研社出版的辜鸿铭先生的英文原版的《The Spirit of the chinese people》，方才看PREFACE，辜老提到之前老外关于中国人的一些文章，他说到“In fact, in order to understand the real Chinaman and the Chinese civilisation, a man must be deep, broad and simple, for the three characteristics of the Chinese character and the Chinese civilisation are : depth, broadness and simplicity”，他认为中国人和中国的精神核心体现在深度、博大（不知道这样翻译是否合适）和简单上。
看到这里的时候，我想到了目前种种针对中 国 西 藏和北京奥运的不和谐之音，这些异常噪耳的声音大多数都是西方国家、西方媒体和西方的别有用心的人发出来的，他们之所以要这么做，原因有很多，之前我也写过分析过，其中还有一点，就是他们根本就不了解中国，不了解中国人。
辜老接着就美国人、英国人、德国人和法国人能否真正了解中国人和中国精神进行分析，这四个国家恰恰代表了最典型的西方国家，也是这次最大的噪声源。
“The American people, I may be permitted to say here, find it difficult to understand the real Chinaman and the Chinese civilisation, because the American people, as a rule, are broad, simple, but not deep. The English cannot understand the real Chinaman and the chinese civilisation because the English, as a rule, are deep, simple,but not broad. The Germans again cannot understand the real Chinaman and the Chinese civilisation because the Germans, especially the educated Germans, as a rule, are deep, broad, but not simple. The French,-well the French are the people,it seems to me, who can understand and has understood the real Chinaman and the Chinese civilisation best”……
辜老认为美国人没有深度，英国人不博大，德国人缺乏简单，只有法国人有可能真正的了解中国……
对于美国人缺乏深度，我觉着是因为美国是一个多民族国家，才几百年的历史，属于那种直接复制成型的国家，就像搭积木一样，所以美国声称其自由，是有一定的道理的，但是其没有深厚的底蕴也是不争的事实。
对于英国，说英国缺少broad，这一点我不知道该如何去理解，不过从二战以来看英国的国家领导人和国家政策来看，其和美国及其他国家的政治关系来看，似乎应该有一点点这方面的体会吧。
至于德国人，说德国人缺乏简单，这点确实是由于德国人的严谨而反衬出来的，但是这个simple，又远远大于严谨的反义词。我们看看德国的默克尔这个 老 娘 们 儿的言行，就能感觉出德国佬的脑子确实很复杂，复杂的有点进水的感觉。
辜老认为法国人是最能理解中国人的，他是有自己根据的，他的根据在随之的后文中，我就不摘到这里了，我们来看看法国近十年对中国人的所作所为，就能体会到法国人确实对我们中国人了解的比较透彻了，虽然有时候他们犯傻的行为我们感到不可理解。
法国希拉克时代，和中国是相当的交好，那是经济利益驱动。但是希拉克下台后，我们才发现这个老家伙竟然在一只手和我们握手的同时，另一只手从背后悄悄的把武器塞给了 台 独 分子。换成了这个萨科奇更不是个玩意儿，来中国一趟，把中国的合同搞走之后，就开始谈要抵制北京 奥运。
这是我对辜老这段文字结合当前形式而给出的自己理解。
说到这里，不禁要提一下，从这次事件中，我们看到了我们中国人学外语和传播中文的重要性。上大学的时候，有同学要上日语培训班，我们嘲笑他学小日 本 鬼 子的话，他说学习日语是为了将来赚RB人的钱，想想说的真对。
建议中国的新浪搜狐等门户网站应该建立起强大的英文门户站点，成为老外了解中国的一个窗口。也建议中国人能够通过英语，更好的表达出我们中国人的想法和看法，同时，传播中文，让更多的老外学习中文，也是给他们一个更好了解中国的工具！为了让更多的老外更好的了解中国，我们需要给他们提供内容，也要给他们提供工具！

辜老又提到“It will be seen from that I have said above that the American people if they will study the Chinese civilisation, will get depth; the English, broadness; and the Germans, simplicity; and the all of them, Americans, English and Germans by the study of the Chinese civilisation, of Chinese books and literature, will get a quality of mind which, I take the liberty of saying here that it seems to me, they all of them, as a rule, have not to a reeminent degree, namely, delicacy. The French people finally, by the study of the Chinese civilasation, will get all,-depth, broadness, simplicity and a still finer delicacy than the delicacy which they now have. thus the study of the Chinese civilisation,of Chinese books and literature will, I believe, be of benefit to all the people of Europe and America”
老外真的应该好好学学中国文化，哪怕是看看中国的书，给西方国家和西方人民进行中国文化教育，势在必行，迫在眉睫啊！
