插播一段刚写的文字
虽与西农无关,但是和最近所发生的事件和思潮有关,同时也建议大家能够看看这本辜鸿铭的《THE SRIRIT OF THE CHINESE PEOPLE》:
方才又看了会《THE SRIRIT OF THE CHINESE PEOPLE》,看到这么一段话,感到实在是有些兴奋,抄下来大家一起欣赏:
I believe the people of Europe will find this new moral force in China,-in the Chinese civilization, The moral force in the Chinese civilization which can make militarism unnecessary is the Religion of good citizenship. But people will say to me, "There have also been wars in China." It is true there have been wars in China; but , since the time of Confucius 2,500 years ago, we Chinese have had no militarism such as that we see in Europe today. In China war is an accident, whereas in Europe war has become a necessity. We Chinese are liable to have wars, but we do not live in constant expectation of war. In fact the one thing intolerable in the state of Europe, it seems to me, is not so much war as the fact that every body is constantly afraid that his neighbour as soon as he gets strong enough to be able to do it, will come to rob and murder him and he has therefore to arm himself or pay for an armed policeman to protect him. Thus what weights upon the people of Eurpoe is not so much the accident of War, but the constant necessity to arm themselves, the absolute neccessity to use physical force to protect themselves.
看完这段话,之所以感到兴奋,觉着辜老深刻揭露了西方国民性的一个特点,这个特点的表现就是“every body is constantly afraid that his neighbour as soon as he gets strong enough to be able to do it”,而从这句话中,我们就非常容易解释现在在西方世界非常流行的“中国妖魔化”和“中国威胁论”了,这是西方的国民性所致,而这种国民性,早在一百年前辜老就已经很清楚很深刻的认识并总结出来了。
基于这个特点,我们很容易理解在整个西方文明史上中西方国家之间的各场战争,包括第一次世界大战、第二次世界大战、冷战,还有美国越战、阿富汗战争、科索沃战争、伊拉克战争了。
同理,辜老对中国国民性中“In China war is an accident,……We Chinese are liable to have wars, but we do not live in constant expectation of war.”的论述,也有助于我们去认识我们中华五千年文明发展过程中的朝代更迭期间发生的战争,还有我们过去一百年间中国人民为了民族的独立和解放而进行的战争。
我有一个强烈的建议,就是把辜老的这本《THE SRIRIT OF THE CHINESE PEOPLE》,印上十亿册,发给西方国家的人民,让他们好好看看,相信他们对改变对中国的认识,同时,也意识到自己那狭隘的一面,不再把自己以人权卫生、和平卫士而自居。
